THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

in Southfield
Danny Raskin's
LISTENING
POST
TIME WAS WHEN we
would shun away from fash-
ion shows . . . They were so
drab and boring as to ac-
cumulate heavy lids.
Not so today . . . or the
ones we've been attending
produced by Leah Marks.
Her latest might have
been the best of them all so
far.
Between 350 and 400
lassies and a few guys
who gathered at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek for the Is-
rael Bond Fashion Show
were enthralled at the
magnificent presenta-
tion.
Noon brunch began with
a gourmet offering put on by
Shaarey Zedek caterer Paul
Kohn, whose food was a
very fine intro to an excel-
lent fashion show enjoyed
by every person who
attended . . . So many are
still talking about it!
The show was more a
Broadway-type production
. . . with Yiddish and He-
brew music ... four dancers
from the Jewish Center
opening the festivities .. .
and 30 models creating
oohs, aahs and applause as
they displayed glamorous
original creations from Is-
rael's leading designers .. .
while Shirley Becker did
her fine commentary
offstage.
Media personages were
en masse . . . most picked up
by limousine service of E.J.
Nuccio's Betty's Place .. .
Sybil Little, Oakland Press;
Matt Beer, Detroit News;
Carol Teegardin, Detroit
Free Press; Mike Miller,
WXYZ radio (with wife
Peggy); Shirlee Iden, South-
field Eccentric; and myself.
It was a glamorous after-
noon and Paul Kohn's buffet
did much to create the ele-
gant feeling of such fantas-
tic fashions.
All affiliated with the
show presentation, except
the two lighting men, do-
nated their services for Is-
rael Bonds . . . Why the two
didn't is strange.
The
fashion
ex-
travaganza took only three
weeks to put together .. .
but looked more like a
three-month preparation
. . . much, much credit to Is-
rael, Rome, London, New
York, Chicago and Detroit
model Leah Marks . . . who
has quickly zoomed to the
top as a premier producer
and coordinator of glamor-
ous fashion shows . . . at
their best.
FOR MANY YEARS,
Pauline Weiss complained
she had never had a REAL
birthday party . . . She can't
say that again . . . Her
friends gave Pauline an un-
forgettable surprise party
complete with balloons,
male stripper, her favorite
Black Forest cake from Jac-
ques and fun . . . Esther and
Dave Ginsburg, the hosts,
went all-out with a buffet
and each guest brought
their specialty.
Hubby Leo fell off the
couch when the stripper
went into his dance .. .
Daughter Adele and friend
Jay Schnaith from Colum-
bus, Ohio were part of the
surprise . . . The friends who
made the party such a suc-
cess were Ilene and Marvin
Goldman, Elaine Kahrnoff,
Teddy and Aubrey Lansky,
Claire and Sy Lipten and
daughter Lori, Dotty and
Sol Morochnik and Anita
and Gene Sokoloff.
CONGRATS . . . to Mary
Been . . . on her birthday.
KEITH KINGSTON did
more than his share in car-
rying dad, Irving, to their
first place loft in the Jack
Benny AZA Father and Son
bowling tournament at
Yorba Linda on Woodward
. . . Keith rolled a whopping
618 series.
LOCAL GENT head of
Burger Chef in West
Branch and Alpena, Elliot
Baum, made a surprise out
of it by being married three
months ago to Denise
Davenport in Atlantic City.
WHEREVER THE
rumor started, it's false .. .
that there is no more Mon-
day night bingo at Cong.
Bnai Moshe on 10 Mile and
Church in Oak Park . . . The
parking lots are still very
much filled and the Monday
night games (doors open at
6) are getting bigger .. .
Workers like Chuck Fields
and so many others do a fine
job in bingo calling . . .
which is governed at Bnai
Moshe under the rules of the
Michigan State Bureau of
Lottery.
ERRATA . . Correct
spelling is Seymour Zate .. .
honoring his 50th anniver-
sary surprise party . . . by
Seymour Zate, Barry Zate
and Ileene Zate.
