Rabbis of Greater Detroit
and Merkaz, will sponsor a
Siyum Hashass celebration,
marking the completion of
the study of the Talmud
from beginning to end, Nov.
24 at 6:30 p.m., at Cong.
Dovid Ben Nuchim, 14800
Lincoln, Oak Park.
The Daf Yomi, or daily
study of the Talmud, was in-
itiated in 1923 by Rabbi
Meir Shapiro, of Lublin.

at Bnai David

"In the End: Jewish
Views on Euthanasia" will
be the lecture to be deliv-
ered by Rabbi Morton F.
Yolkut at the Bnai David
Institute for Adult Educa-
tion on Wednesday at 8:15
p.m. at Bnai David.
Among the topics to be
discussed are: establishing
criteria of death, life
preserving machines and
Jewish law, the Karen Ann
Quinlan Case, the "Death
With Dignity" argument
and moral and Halakhic
considerations of
euthanasia.
The lecture is the fourth
in a series entitled "Who
Shall Live and Who Shall
Die? — Modern Medicine
and Jewish Law." The
series is open to- 'the com-
munity without charge.

Zionist Shabat'
Slated Nov. 20

NEW YORK— Saturday,
Nov. 20 has been declared a
national "Zionist Shabat,"
by Joseph Sternstein,
president of the American
Zionist Federation. -
Groups participating in
the observance include the
Pittsburgh Zicnist Federa-
tion, the Jewish Federation
of Dayton and the Board of
Jewish Education of New
York.

Menuhin Plays
in Jerusalem

LONDON — Violinist
Yehudi Menuhin, often crit-
ical of Israel's policies, per-
formed at the season-
opening concert of the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra in
Jerusalem last month.
"I wanted very much to be
here at this time because Is-
rael is under such strong at-
tack from abroad," Menu-
hin told members of the or-.
chestra, according to the
London Jewish Chronicle.
