TEL AVIV (JTA) — Ar-
cheologists from the Haifa
Pre-historic Museum be-
lieve they have recon-
structed in detail a domestic
accident that occurred
about 9,000 years ago in
what is now Lower Galilee.
The sequence of events
has been extrapolated from
the remains of a skeleton
uncovered on the final day
of this year's dig at the Yif-
tahel site near Kibutz
Hasolelim.

COLLEGE OF JEWISH STUDIES
According to the ar-
cheologists, the skeleton is
probably that of a young
woman of about 20 —
though it could have be-
longed to a man — who was
chopping flint stone in a
roofed-over yard when the
roof collapsed and buried
her in the rubble. The debris
showed evidence that a pile
of lentils had,been drying on
the roof.
Some time later, per-
sons, probably members
of the woman's — or
man's — family, cut off
the head of the victim for
ritual burial as was the
custom of the time. The
archeologists say the
woman was kneeling,
facing east, with her left
hand resting on her thigh
and her right hand hold-
ing chips of flint, when
the roof fell in. She was
killed instantly of a
UN Trade Unit
Excludes Israel
GENEVA (JTA) — De-
spite strong diplomatic ef-
forts by the United States,
an Arab-sponsored resolu-
tion was approved here by
the United Nations Trade
and Development Board to
exclude Israel for the eighth
consecutive year from par-
ticipating in economic and
trade negotiations and from
receiving funds allocated to
Third World nations.
The resolution was ap-
proved by a 63-22 margin.
The U.S. Ambassador to
the UN here Geoffrey
Swabe, said he was con-
cerned at the growing at-
mosphere of confrontation
at the meetings of the trade
and development board.
He said that less time was
being devoted to efficient
discussions on the problems
facing developing nations.
`Begin Criticism
No Basis for
Aid Decision'
NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Reagan Administra-
tion was advised that it
must never use American
Jewish criticism of the gov-
ernment of Premier
Menahem Begin as a reason
to reduce U.S. support for
Israel.
"Jewish commitment to
the state of Israel has never
been stronger," Rabbi Ar-
nold Goodman, president of
the Rabbinical Assembly,
declared in a statement
read on his behalf at an all-
day social action conference
called by the assembly to
discuss U.S.-Israel policy
and American domestic
problems.
U.S. Withholds
UNRWA Funds
UNITED NATIONS —
The United States an-
nounced last week that Lt is
withholding $15 million
from its 1982 contribution
of $62 million for the UN
Relief and Works Agency
(UNRWA) because the
agency has admitted that
the PLO operated in one of
its schools in Lebanon.
broken neck, they say.
The archeologists have
given the woman the name
Yifaat, after the site of the
dig. If it were a man, the
name would be Yefet. That
detail may be determined if
the missing head is found
when the digging is re-
sumed at Yiftahel next
year.
