Steinman. The Mackinac Bridge, spanning nearly five miles with its approaches, cele- brated its 25th anniversary on Nov. 1. It links Michi- gan's Upper and Lower peninsulas across the Straits of Mackinac. Steinman was a professor of civil engineering in Idaho and New York during the decade of World War I, and then began a bridge- building and designing career on five continents. Besides the Mackinac, the re-construction of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York was among the 400 bridges he worked on. Steinman died in 1960. Inflation Dispute JERUSALEM (ZINS) — Although the Israeli gov- ernment says that inflation fell in 1981 from 137 per- cent to 101 percent, the World Bank says Israel's inflation for the year was at 121 percent. Ghana had 120 percent inflation according to the World Bank and Argentina was at 114. JERUSALEM (ZINS) — The Paris-based Kul al- Arab magazine recently quoted Lebanese Prime Minister Shafik Wazzan as saying Lebanon would never sign a peace treaty with Israel under "condi- tions of conquest." A Saudi publication quoted Lebanese President Amin Gemayel as saying there was a "special rela- tionship" between Syria and Lebanon. There are 150 psalms in the Book of Psalms. Fred M. Mes- ter won his Oakland County Circuit Court race and Ber- nard A. Friedman was elected to the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills. Oakland County Com- missioners Dennis M. Aaron (D-Oak Park) and Lawrence R. Pernick (D- Southfield) won re-election. Rep. Joe Forbes (D-Oak Park) was re-elected to the state House of Representa- tives in the 67th District and is rumored to be in the running for the position of Speaker of the House. Maxine Berman (D- Southfield) won in the 64th District. Sen. Jack Faxon (D- Southfield) was re-elected to the state Senate by win- ning the new 15th District seat.
