Judge Dorothy Comstock Riley, the - first woman elected to the Michigan Court of Appeals, is a candi- date for the Michigan Sup- reme Court. Judge Riley, who served an interim term on the Wayne County Circuit Court, is the only woman ever appointed to a State Appellate bench. She was then elected in 1976 and re-elected in 1978 for a term ending Jan. 1, 1985. A past president of the Women Lawyers Associa- tion of Michigan, Judge Riley holds a BA degree in political science and a law degree from Wayne State University. Judge Riley has practiced law for 32 years. Admitted to practice in all Michigan courts, the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Judge Riley has lectured for the Insti- tute of Continuing Legal Education and written articles for law journals. Kavanagh Seeks Oakland Bench Thomas Kavanagh Jr. of Pleasant Ridge is a candi- date for Oakland County Circuit Court judge in Tuesday's elections. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit High School and Holy Cross Col- lege. He earned a master's degree at the University of Michigan and his juris doc- tor degree at the Detroit College of Law. A practicing attorney since 1980, Kavanagh is a former principal of St. Mary's of Redford High School in Detroit.
