Hermelins Plant 10 000-Tree Forest in Israel Through JNF 9 Mr. and Mrs. David B. Hermelin of Bingham Farms have purchased a 10,000-tree forest in Israel through the Jewish Na- tional Fund. The forest is the second to be established by Hermelin. In 1977, Mr. and Mrs. Hermelin were in Israel to attend the dedica- tion of the Frances Heiden- reich Hermelin and Son, Marvin Hermelin Forest in Beit Guvrin, named for his late mother and brother. Hermelin is a member of the executive and adminis- trative committee of the Jewish National Fund. The volume traces the importance of Jewish life in Bialystok, the Polish- Russian city which was the birthplace and home of many prominent Jewish leaders. In 1900, Bialystok was the third largest industrial city in Russia. Of 65,000 in- habitants, 64 percent were Jews. In 1930, the popula- tion was 91,000, of whom 60,000 were Jews. Eizenstat Named to AJC Post NEW YORK — Stuart E. Eizenstat, assistant to the President for domestic af- fairs and policy during the Carter Administration, has been named chairman of the advisory board of the American Jewish Commit- tee's Institute on American Jewish-Israeli Relations. Weingardens Celebrate 50th Mr. and Mrs. Sam (Peggy) Weingarden of Southfield celebrated their 50th wed- ding anniversary last weekend at a dinner party given by their children at the Standard Club North. THE WEINGARDENS Their children are Dr. and Mrs. Michael (Linda) Weingarden and Dr. and Mrs. Terry (Susan) Wein- garden, both of West Bloom- field. The senior Weingardens were also honored at Shabat services Saturday at Cong. Shaarey Zedek by Rabbi Irwin Groner. They were married Oct. 23, 1932 in Detroit by Rabbi Stollman. They have been members of Cong. Shaarey Zedek for more than 40 years. Weingarden, a semi- retired insurance agent, was one of the first Jewish DeMolays in Detroit. He is a lifetime member of Craftsman Lodge and the Moslem Shriners, and is a 32nd degree Mason. Mrs. Weingarden is a member of Shaarey Zedek's Sisterhood and Garden Club and is a corresponding secretary for Pioneer Women. The couple has four grandchildren.
