BOOK RECENTLY
written and released by a
couple of members of Mon-
day night football crew
(Andy Armentani and Gary
Donatelli, with foreword by
Don Meredith) is called
"Monday Night Football
Cookbook and Restaurant
Guide."
In it is listed recipes from
around the country . . .
along with favorite places
for the broadcasters,
cameramen and crew of the
popular ABC-TV program
to satisfy their palates in
each city that has a Na-
tional Football League
franchise.
In Detroit are listed .
Charley's Crab, Fox
Hounds, Joe Muer's and
Brownie's On The Lake .. .
Former Detroiters are also
recognized in the Dallas,
Texas _segment ... "There
n it is
are many times whe
impossible to leave for a
meal and return to the
stadium because of game
day traffic. This is when our
unit managers, the people
who make arrangements
and pay the bills for us,
must engage the services of
a caterer.
"Bagelstein's, Inc. is
such an outstanding cat-
ering service we just had
to give them a mention.
Would you believe real
New York deli food in the
Lone Star state? Larry
and Susan Goldstein
have got it covered all the
way to Dr. Brown's Cel-
Ray Tonic, and, oh yes,
bagels. They helped us
with two good things to
spread on bagels along
with a deli standard -
what else? - chopped
liver."
e
Larry is the son of loca-
lites Adele and Herb Golds-
tein ... . Susan is the daugh-
ter of former Detroiters
Larry and Marion Fuller .. .
They bought the place in
June 1976 at a bankruptcy
sale and in six years have
built it into a very suc-
cessful business.
Shelly Goldstein, daugh-
ter of Adele and Herb, went
to Dallas for a visit four
016.11ilawbr
t,
years ago . . . and has re-
mained there. . . working
for Highland Appliance.
Three of-. Bagelstein's re-
cipes are in the book .. .
Raisin Cream Cheese, Veg-
etable Cream Cheese and
Chopped Liver . . . Since the
Monday night football boys
love their chopped liver,
here it is:
"One pound beef liver.
One pound chicken liver.
Six eggs, hard-boiled.
Two onions, sliced. One-
half cup vegetable oil.
Salt. Pepper.
"Wash and drain liver.
Boil livers together until
done. Put one onion
through grinder, let
drain (if you don't have a
grinder, chop fine in a
wooden mixing bowl).
Saute-the other onion in
oil for 10 minutes. Stir
frequently.
"Combine cooked liver
with the sauteed onion
and oil. Put in grinder to-
gether with the eggs. Add
raw onion and grind
again. Add salt and pep-
per to taste.
"Serve as an hors
d'oeuvre, or as an appetizer
on a bed of lettuce leaves."

MAIL DEPT. . . . "My
husband and I are into good
nutrition and exercise.
Fats, carbohydrates, sugar
and red meats are out.
Fresh vege t ables, fiber,
poultry and fish are in. We
eat out a great deal, but do
not enjoy the strictly lo-cal,
health food restaurants.
"We found very few that
served a variety of-nutri-
tional, good-tasting foods
until we found Benjie's. It
specializes in fresh fish
which my husband and I
adore. He loves their char-
broiled halibut and broiled
scrod.
"My favorites are the
Lake Superior whitefish
and Alaskan salmon steak.
Benjie's sauted lemon sole is
also a treat (a little fatten-
ing).
"So tonight after my hush-
band jogs his six-eight miles
(I attended my dance
aerobic class this morning)
we're off to Benjie's on Or-
chard Lake Road for a good
piece of fish.
