THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Abie Engelbaum Abie Engelbaum, owner of Abie's Delicatessen in Windsor, died Oct. 12 at age 71. Born in Romania, Mr. Engelbaum lived in Windsor since 1948. He was a member of Cong. Shaar Hashomayim and was active in efforts on behalf of the Beth Yehuda Schools, efr Akiva Hebrew Day School, Shaare Zedek Hospital and Bar-Ilan University. He is survived by his wife, Lora; a son, Isaac (Ike); a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Karen) Haviv of Toronto, Ont.:, a sister, Dora Prostak; and three grandchildren. Rena Schiller Rena R. Schiller, a member of Jewish com- munal organizations, died Oct. 19 at age 87. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Schiller lived 64 years in Detroit. She was a member of Temple Beth El, Women's American ORT, Sinai Hospital Guild and National Council of Jewish Women. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Arthur W. (Nancy) Schlesinger, Jr., and Mrs. Herbert (Elaine) Holman of Portolla Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Frances Magid Frances Magid, an ad- ministrative secretary at Hillel Day School, died Oct. 17 at age 55. A native Detroiter, Mrs. Magid was a member of Women's American ORT. Nathan Shever, Ex-Detroiter Nathan Shever, a former Detroiter who was active in St. Louis Jewish communal causes, died Oct. 9 at age 84. Born in Poland, Mr. Shever was raised in De- troit prior to moving to St. Louis, Mo. In St. Louis he was the chairman of the Greater St. Louis Federa- tion United Jewish Appeal Combined Campaign, chairman of Israel Bonds drives several times, past chairman of Histadrut and ' a member of the Labor Zionist Organization, American Jewish Commit- tee and American Jewish Congress. He was one of the first Hadassah Associates. Mr. Shever was on the board of directors of the YMHA of Greater St. Louis and on the board of that city's Jewish Hospital. In 1958, he dedicated the Shever Community Center in Beersheva, Is- rael. He served in the_ Army in World War I. A resident of Miami Be- ach, Fla., at the time of his death, Mr. Shever was a member of Temple Beth Shalom. The brother of the late Detroiter Morris Schaver, Mr. Shever is survived by his wife, Goldye; a daugh- ter, Mrs. Phyllis Girard of Palm Beach, Fla.; one brother; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment Florida. . Annie Friedleng Annie Friedleng, a member of Jewish cultural groups here and in Newport News, Va., died Oct. 3 at age 86. Born in Zamosc, Poland, Mrs. Friedleng lived 46 years in Detroit, where she was a member of the Yid- dish Folks Verein and Zamosc-Tomashover Society. In Virginia, she was a member of the Golden Age Club of the Jewish Community Center and in- volved in the foster grandparents program for the past 10 years. She re- sided in Hampton, Va., at the time of her death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leo J. (Bert) Nelson of Southfield and Mrs. Ben (Jane) Goldman of Hampton, Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment Newport News.
