to Help
Clear Camps?
IDF
SIDON (JNI) — The IDF
(Israel Defense Forces) are
ready to help clear debris in
Lebanese refugee camps,
but will wait for a request
from the UN Relief and
Works Agency (UNRWA).
The head of the U.S.
agency for International
Development (AID) has
asked Israel to defend
Palestinian refugee camps
from Lebanese militiamen
who have moved into many
former PLO strongholds.
AID director Peter McPher-
son toured the Ein Hilwe
camp earlier this month and
met with Israeli military of-
ficials for more than an
hour.
IF ATTENTION!!!
NEW YORK -- When
Samuel Weinberger of New
Rochelle, N.Y., entered
Yeshiva University High
School for Boys in Manhat-
tan at the age of 12, ad-
ministrators and teachers
quickly discovered that
high school mathematics
courses did not challenge
him. So they alloWed Wein-
berger to take math courses
at Yeshiva College, the
men's undergraduate di-
vision of Yeshiva Univer-
sity.
This fall, at the age of 19,
Dr. Weinberger started
teaching college calculus
courses at Princeton Uni-
versity, becoming, many at
Princeton believe, the
youngest faculty member in
that university's history.
Those teachers and ad-
ministrators at the high
school — now the Marsha
Stern Talmudical
Academy-Yeshiva Univer-
sity High School for Boys,
Manhattan — are not sur-
prised.
By the time he was 14,
Dr. Weinberger was tak-
ing courses at Yeshiva
University's Belfer
Graduate School,: of Sci-
ence. That year, he won
top honors in the Westin-
ghouse Science Talent
Search for his project on
"fixed-point theory" in
mathematics.
At 15, he enrolled eNew
York University, where he
completed work for a docto-
rate in mathematics in four
years. He is the youngest
person ever to receive a doc-
torate in math from
NYU. But, even when he
was attending NYU, Wein-
berger, the son of Rabbi and
Mrs. Philip Weinberger of
New Rochelle, continued to
return to the Yeshiva Uni-
versity campus regularly to
sit in on shiur (Talmudic
discourses) at the univer-
sity's Rabbi Isaac Elchanan
Theological Seminary.
Doubt is hell in the
human soul.
