No Charges Against Avneri JERUSALEM (JTA) — No criminal charges will be filed against Uri Avneri, editor of the weekly news magazine Haolam Hazeh, for having met with PLO chief Yasir Arafat in Beirut at the height of the war in Lebanon last summer. Attorney General Yit- zhak Zamir ruled that there was no evidence for a possi- ble criminal offense in hold- ing that meeting, and there- fore closed the file on the case. Avneri's meeting with- Arafat was the first be- tween an Israeli journalist and the terrorist leader. Avneri said after the meet- ing that he felt there was a basis for an Israeli dialogue with the PLO. There was considerable criticism in Israel, also among Avneri's political friends, that he liad met with Israel's enemy at the height of the war that was aimed at ending PLO ter- rorism against Israel. Av- neri, however, insisted that his meeting with Arafat constituted legitimate jour- nalism. • t 4 ,/ THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, October 22, 1992 53 Pharmacists Plan Benefit Dinner-Dance Aesculapian Phar- maceutical Association and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a charity dinner-dance 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Cong.
