Pointe
THE NEW
Bar-B-Q on Van Dyke and
17 Mile Rd. had its grand
opening recently . . . a very
crowded reaction to the new
spot of owner Tony Tocco .. .
Actually, the newest Pointe
Bar-B-Q has been open
about a month, but this was
somewhat of a showcase for
what may be one of the
largest barbecue operations
around.
Tony's second spot holds
about 401 people in five
rooms . . . each of which can
be closed off to provide
necessary intimacy . . .
There's dancing, too .. .
Wednesday through Satur-
day . . . with Giorgio and Co.
. . . Giorgio (Goreni) on voc-
als, Louie Marr, piano,
Ronnie Shandel, lead
guitar, Terry Danyo, bass
guitar and Howard Baker,
drums.
No other spot anywhere
close to it provides this type
of music . . . Latin,
standards, oldies, pops, etc.
. . . Almost all the rest on
the east side of town seem to
lean toward being jazz and
disco happy.

For sure, nobody has a
nine-foot concert grand

piano (Baldwin) that
Louie Marr's fingers
tickle with joyful grace
. and its large dance
floor ... with walls mir-
rored in choice decor.

Can't think of another
place either that provides
the barbecue ribs and chic-
ken cooked on Tony's double
rotisserie in the huge
kitchen of so much stainless
steel . . . and new tile.
Tony brings a very good
reputation to the former
Winetasters . . . His Pointe
Bar-B-Q on E. Warren is 23
years old . . . now run by
daughter, Toni Ann Tocco,
who grew up in the restau-
rant.
His wide note for cooking
ribs and chicken the old-
fashioned way is well-
merited . . . Tony is also
known for his process of
preparing ribs and chicken
. . . On the menu is the
statement, "Cooked with
sauce at your request" .. .
We always favored ribs
without being basted be-
cause some places go wild
with their basting brushes
... or use it to camouflage
the taste of inferior quality.

Those who like ribs or
chicken basted enjoy To-
ny's light touch . . . That's
his way of doing such
foods ... and it's been
highly successful for over
23 years ... There are
places who put their
sauce above the ribs or
chicken ... and think
there's nothing like it.

Even sandwiches at
Pointe Bar-B-Q are "Cooked
with sauce on request" . . .
and if you've never heard of
a barbecue rib sandwich,
Tony has one . . . Actually,
it's a BBQ rib snack of about
five meaty bones.
The former Winetasters
has been completely recar-
peted . . . 800 yards of it .. .
by Marvin Leader at New
York Leader Carpet Co. . . .
One of the rooms made in a -
wine cellar motif with
stucco walls, low beam ceil-
ing, wine cask settings,
whirling fans, low light fix-
tures, etc., is ideal for ban-
quets and parties . . . large
or small.
Tony's tole slaw with
pineapple juice is well-
known . . . His innovations
are many . . . But when you
get right down to bare facts
. . . he serves good food.
Now, with dancing and
entertainment to go along
with his no-frill menu .. .
Tony Tocco, among the ni-
cest guys around . . . and a
pleasure-to-know host, is
providing something that
the East Side has needed for
a long time.

RUMPLE STILTSKIN,

four guys and three gals, a
total variety group . . . from
the Andrews Sisters to
songs of today . . . are at An-
thony's in the Sheraton-
Oaks, across from 12-Oaks
Mall in Novi.

EASY LISTENING .. .

The soft, soothing voice and
music of Jay Roberts on
WJR radio's "Nightflight."
PEOPLE USED to say,
