70 Friday, October 15, 1982 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Balfour Fete Aids Public Aliza Shevrin to Address Relations, Projects in Israel Midrasha-Hadassah Event Irving Laker, president of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, announced this week that beneficiaries of the Balfour Concert, to be held 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Ford Auditorium, will be the public relations needs and Israeli projects spon- sored by the Zionist Organ- ization of America. The concert will feature Israeli vocalist Geula Gill and violinist Daniel Phil- lips. Laker said the funds raised during this campaign help to fund over 600 young Israelis who attend ZOA schools on the Kfar Silver campus, home of the Sylvia and Alexander Hassan Technical High School; the Agricultural High School; nurses training; the Mollie Goodman Academic High. School for American Stu- dents; the Aviation High School; and the junior high school. In 1981, a new category of contributors, namely Kfar Silver Scholarship Sponsors in the amount of $1,000 each, was created by the Metropolitan Detroit Dis- trict of the ZOA, and as a result, 16 contributors joined this new category. Other activities that the funds support are the ZOA House in Tel Aviv and Shchania, a ZOA moshav in the Galilee. ZOA in the United States publishes the American Zionist magazine. The ZOA public affairs office in Washington, D.C., monitors activities in the capital, Congress and the White House. ZOA headquarters in New York City serves as a cultural and educational center for Zionist activity in America. ZOA pioneer- ing in Project Energy Inde- pendence for the U.S. con- tinues. Locally, the ZOA spon- sors symposia, dialogues, debates and public affairs programs. It combats anti- Israel Arab propaganda on the college campuses. Peres Forsees Jordanian Sovereignty Over West Bank TEL AVIV (JTA) — Shi- mon Peres, chairman of the opposition Labor Party, has called for a settlement of the Palestinian problem by the establishment of a Jordanian-Palestinian framework to include all of the Palestinians living in Jordan, the West Bank and Gaza Strip. According to Peres, Jewish settlements could remain intact within such a framework under Jorda- nian sovereignty. Fishbane has been appointed princi- pal of the United Hebrew Schools' High School and lecturer in the Midrasha College of Jewish Studies. He is also the coordinator of European anti-Semitism in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. He has been a teaching fellow in the departments of history and religion and has been a lecturer in the department of reli- gion at U-M.
