Jakks is a three-fold op-
eration . . . Good food, good
service and good
entertainment . . . Can't
beat this combination.
ALWAYS NOTED as
one of the top consistency
Chinese restaurants
around, Hoa Kow on W.
Nine Mile, just west of
Coolidge, now has Szechuan
cooking to go along with its
fine Cantonese menu .. .
The new change comes
about after 28 years at the
same spot.
IT'S A COMPLETE
cosmetic facelift for Bloom-
field Canopy on Orchard
Lake Rd. and 15 Mile .. .
which was closed for remod-
eling today . . . and will re-
open Oct. 25 with its new
look . . . stucco walls, more
intimate- atmosphere and
changes all over as
Frank and Anna Stratton
celebrate the 20th anniver-
sary of Bloomfield Canopy.
GERHARD SEIBERT
takes over for Art Grimson
as new General Manager at
Northfield Hilton, 1-75 and
Crooks . . . bringing loads of
experience holding exec
offices with the Hilton chain

through Friday . . . is going
over big.
Downstairs in the 170
seating Comedy Castle
run by Mark Ridley, top
comic entertainers are
brought in Tuesday
through Sunday (Tues-
day is usually New Talent
Night) . . . It also has ban-
quets, Bar Mitzvas, etc.
before showtime and if
people want to stay, it's
included in the package.
New TV show, "Stars of
Tomorrow" had its first tap-
ing in Comedy Castle while
we were at Maximilian's .. .
It debuts in January on
Channel 2 . . . and will be
shown Saturday noons.
Service at Maximilian's is
a big plus . . . thanks to
people like Cheryl
Wakefield, day manager,
and Nick Sorise, night
manager . . . Their knowl-
edge is such that employees
can respect . . . very impor-
tant, to be sure.
WHEN WAS THE last
time you saw a tuxedo'd
group at Jakks, 10 Mile and
Greenfield . . . In fact, this is
also probably the first time
an aggregation for listening
and dancing has ever been
there.
Billy Rose Quartet, at
Jakks Wednesday through
Saturday, seems to be creat-
ing much conversation .. .
The all-new format at this
popular restaurant and
lounge now includes some-
one (Billy Rose) who might
be classed among the last of
the local biggies from yes-
teryears . . . still maintain
ing a top notch quality in
music, entertainment and
showmanship.
Billy Rose has always
been a favorite . . . and still
is . . . as attested by the
huge crowds that greeted
his -opening last week at
Jakks . . . Dancers love his
music . . . listeners beg for
more and get it . . . His voice
seems to attain a finer qual-
ity as the years roll by .. .
Much more mature in pace
and finesse than those days
when he was known as
"Baby Face."
The repertoire of Billy
Rose and his quartet is
huge . . . from oldies to
standards to jazz to Latin
to favorites, etc.. . . Made
up of Billy on lead guitar,
Rudy Goldie, bass guitar,
Billy Marr, piano, and
Chris Rose, drums, the
group thrills dancers and
listeners galore.
They go through "Just In
Time," "Kansas City," "Just
One Of Those Things,"
"Leroy Brown," "Golden
Earrings," "Never on Sun-
day," "Funny Valentine,"
"New York, New York" .. .
etc., etc., etc. . . . In fact, I
can't think of any standard
they don't play or haven't
played on request.
So many new faces .. .
never saw the Jakks dance
floor so crowded . . . or such
vibrant fun . . . "Best thing
that ever happened to
Jakks," said Domestic Li-
nen's Lou Miller . . . "I've fi-
nally found a place to dance
Latin American," said Mar-
