When militants took over

were forced to re-evaluate
their relationships and
their lives.
Barbara and Barry Rosen
were happily married.

Weizmann Gala
Cites Rubinstein
NEW YORK — The
Weizmann Institute dinner
scheduled for the Walforf -
Astoria Monday, features a
tribute to Maestro Arthur
Rubinstein for his support
of scientific research at
Weizmann and artistic
creativity in Israel's cul-
tural life.
The dinner will provide
the opportunity for a reu-
nion between Rubinstein
and conductor Zubin Mehta,
both of whom will fly in spe-
cially for the occasion. The
two musical luminaries last
worked together in 1976,
when they recorded a
Brahms concerto with the
Israel Philharmonic during
the pianist's final year of
public performances.

Barbara= a former school-
teacher, the mother of two
young children. When
Barry returned to Teheran
on assignment, she re-
turned to her parents, plan-
ning to join Min shortly —
until their world fell apart.
While Barry suffered in
captivity, Barbara learned
to cope with a suddenly de-
manding world, full of tele-
vision appearances, news
stories that threatened Bar-
ry's safety, State Depart-
ment hearings and Euro-
pean missions.
Their book, "The. De-
stined Hour," recounts both
their struggles as they tried
to put meaning back into
their tense new lives with-
out each other.
Barry describes the
supercharged political
and emotional climate of
Iran and his inside
knowledge of the consid-
erations and debate that
preceded the Shah's ad-
mittance to the U.S. He
also tells of his deep feel-
ings for his family in
Brooklyn and his fear for
his own life at the hands
of the people he had
loved.
Juxtapoed against Bar-
ry's story is Barbara's ac-
count of the families in
America: their efforts to or-
ganize and their frustra-
tions with the government
and the press, as well as
their fear that their families
would never be together
again.
More than a re-creation of
the hostage tragedy that
gripped the nation for 444
days, this is a story of love
and re-evaluation, told with
a rare honesty and the pas-
sion of victims.
The Rosens will speak on
Men's Club Night, 8 p.m.
Nov. 14.
