NCYI Leader
Urges Support
of Begin Govt.

NEW YORK — Harold
M. Jacobs, president of the
National Council of Young
Israel, has expressed, "the
strong, continuing support
and confidence of the vast
majority of Orthodox Jews
in the policies and goals of
the Begin government in Is-
rael."
The Young Israel leader
cited a wave of bombings
and terrorist acts directed
against synagogues in
Europe, and, "a less pub-
licized but equally serious
rise in incidents of anti-
Semitic vandalism directed
against synagogues and
Jewish institutions here in
the United States.
"By recklessly exaggerat-
ing the extent of Jewish re-
sponsibility for the tragedy
in Beirut, even before the
results of the impartial jud-
icial inquiry are made
known, self-hating Jewish
spokesmen - have unwit-
tingly encouraged the revi-
val of the most vicious and
widespread tide of anti-
Semitism that we have wit-
nessed in a generation," he
said.

Omaha Complex

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
new 88-bed skilled nursing

raisinG. campaign conducted
by the b Jewish Federation of
Omaha which brought in
more than $4.7 million in
pledges, the Council of
Jewish Federations re-
ported.
The CJF said the home
was the second building to
open this year on the
multi-million dollar Jewish
Federation complex, joining
the Livingston Plaza, a 52-
unit apartment building for
the elderly which was
opened in March.
Also included in the com-
plex is the Jewish Commu-
nity Center which connects
the two new buildings and
shares a kosher community
kitchen with them.

$22 Million for
UJA Kick-Off

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Pledges totalling
$22,264,000 were made at
the first United Jewish Ap-
peal Hineni Leadership
meeting at which the 1983
UJA regular compaign and
Israel special fund were
launched, _according to
Robert Loup, UJA national
chairman.
Loup said the pledge to-
tal, including regular and
special fund gifts, repre-
sented a 46.8 percent in-
crease over contributions by
the the same givers to tile
1982 regular UJA cam-
paign. More than 300
Jewish leaders from 48
communities participated.

Books are the legacies
that a great genius leaves to
mankind, which are deliv-
ered down from generation
to generation; as presents to
the posterity of .those who
are yet unborn.
