Edwin Gornbein Rosalind Kaiser Edwin Gornbein, a foun- der of United Dairies, died Oct. 1 at age 86. Born in Russia, Mr. Gornbein lived 58 years in Detroit. He left United Dairies in 1955 and became a wholesale distributor for Borden Dairy. He was a founder of the Sholem Aleicheim Institute and Farband Labor Zionist organization and Branch III of the Workmen's Circle He was a member of Downtown-Fox Lodge of Bnai Brith. He leaves his wife, Rose; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Goldie) Greer and Mrs. Milton (Betty) Marks; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Rosalind Kaiser, a dental receptionist, died Oct. 3 at age 57. A native Detroiter, Mrs. Kaiser was a past president of the Northwest Child Re- scue Women. JERUSALEM — Prof. Gabriel Baer of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a world-renowned expert on the history of the Muslim countries and Israel Prize laureate, died Sept. 21. He was 63. Born in Germany, Prof. Baer dedicated his aca- demic career to developing and promoting the study of the social history of the Middle East in modern times. In 1967, Prof. Baer was appointed chairman of the Hebrew University's Insti- tute of Asian and African Studies, and in 1979 he was a Fellow in the university's institute of advanced studies. Prof. Baer was awarded Lhe Israel Prize in the Humanities, • for Arab Philology and Oriental Studies, in 1976.
