Pola R. Friedman has
joined the Sinai Hospital of
Detroit staff as administra-
tive liaison-Guild. She will
be responsible for helping
set policy and direction for
the hospital's volunteer
organization.
Mrs. Friedman had
served as Guild president
for two years before the ap-
pointment. She was also an
ex-officio member of the
hospital's board of trustees
and served on its planning
committee.
Mrs. Friedman is a
member of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation Women's
Division and the Fresh Air
Society boards of directors.
She chairs the society's per-
sonnel and recruitment
committee.
Mrs. Friedman holds a
BA degree from Wayne
State University and prev-
iously taught in the Oak
Park Schools.
The Music Study Club of
Metropolitan Detroit will
present clarinetist Brian
Schweikhardt in a lecture-
recital 12:15 p.m. Oct. 19 at
the Birmingham Temple.
Schweikhardt, who will
be accompanied on piano by
Marcy Chanteaux, will
focus on the works of
Wagner, Weiner, Bolcom,
Bassett and Debussy.
Schweikhardt is pursuing
doctoral studies at the Uni-
versity of Michigan. He was
with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra for 11 seasons as
assistant principal

NEW YORK — The
number of North Ameri-
cans emigrating to Israel
increased by 42 percent in
the month of August, as
compared with a year ago,
according to the Israel
Aliya Center of North
America.
The center's director,
Moshe Shechter, reported
that 65 percent of the 538
new emigrants were under
30 years old. He also noted
that 140 former residents
of Israel -returned home
with the assistance of the
Aliya Center.
