October 8, 1982
Friends of Shaare Zedek Hospital, only recently the Detroit Jewish Community sustained a very tragic
loss. With the death of Rabbi Joshua Sperka one of our most esteemed spiritual leaders was taken from
our midst.

His involvement in so many worthwhile causes locally and nationally was limitless and there are literally
thousands of individuals with whom he established bonds of sincere friendship.

One of the causes closest to his heart was the Sharre Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. As the President of
the Detroit Friends he worked tirelessly in support of this wonderful institution. For the last few years his
special interest was directed towards the development of the School of Nursing affiliated with the
Hospital.

The board of directors of the Detroit Friends therefore decided to endow the Lecture Hall in the School of
Nursing to be called the Rabbi Joshua Sperka Lecture Hall. The necessary funds must be raised during
our annual Shaare Zedek campaign which will culminate with the dinner on November 9th at Congrega-
tion B'nai David.

We ask the Detroit Jewish community to join us in our effort.

Sincerely yours,

Chairmen of the Dinner Committee
Detroit Friends of Shaare Zedek Hospital
