BALFOUR CELEBRATION Arab Claims Are Refuted AN EVENING OF MUSICAL EXCITEMENT. TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Ben- jamin Gor-Aryeh, who is the Arab problems adviser to the Israeli government, re- vealed some interesting de- tails about the position of Israeli Arabs in an inter- view with Maariv. He pointed out that in 1948, around 120,000 Arabs remained on Israeli terri- tory, 92 percent of them il- literate. Today their place has been taken by 670,000 Arabs who are well estab- lished people, many intel- lectuals, and thousands of students in the Arab iini- versities — not just in Is- raeli ones. The Arab intellectuals complain that they can't find a place for themselves in the country, but Gor- Aryeh says that is not true. He stresses that 90 percent of all young educated Arabs received appropriate jobs. For example, 10,000 of them received teaching positions, and 96 percent of all Arab children go to school — a higher percentage than in Sweden. This year, 27 percent,of the education budget will be set aside for the Arab sector. Electric lighting has already been in- stalled in 98 percent of all Arab villages, and it will soon be extended to the remaining ones also. Therefore, Gor-Aryeh is convinced that there is no basis for the claim that Is- raeli Arabs are disadvan- taged.
