Detroit Sports for Israel
Chapter Plans Fall Events
A Detroit Chapter of
Sports for Israel, affiliated
with the Maccabi World
Union, held an organiza-
tional meeting last week
and has planned a number
of events for the fall.
The group, under the
leadership of Max Sheldon,
will hold a second meeting
5:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the
main Jewish Community
Center.
At 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the
Center, the group will host a
reunion of those youngsters
who participated in Mac-
cabia Youth Games in
Graduate Wins
Variety of Honors
Joseph Kowalsky, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kow-
alsky of Southfield, received
honors for excellence in
English, social studies,
foreign language and math-
ematics at Southfield-
Lathrup High School's hon-
ors convocation.
Kowalsky received a
four-year merit tuition
scholarship to Wayne State
University.
Memphis, Tenn. this sum-
mer.
The next competition
planned by the organiza-
tion will be participation
in the International
Hanuka Maccabia in De-
cember. Jewish groups
from all over the world
will participate in ath-
letic events at home and
submit their results to Is-
rael for scoring.
The Detroit Chapter is
trying to enlarge the organ-
ization. Adults interested in
participating should attend
the Oct. 13 meeting at the
Center.
