ing needs in the current
Israel-Lebanese crisis,
David Altman, director

sity in Ramat Gan, Israel,

Having served in the Is-
rael army reserves in the
current Lebanese war,
Altman told of the sacrifices
made by the Israeli army to
avoid injuring civilians.
Addressing some 100
supporters of Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity at a gathering at the
home of Mr. and. Mrs. Paul
Borman, Sept. 9, Altman
expressed grief over the
death of several of his
friends and associates -who,
he stated, could have lived
had they not trusted the
enemy. It was while avoid-
ing harm to women and
children in Lebanon that
they were shot down by ter-
rorists who were using the
civilians as shields.
Altman declared that a
program of spreading
knowledge, of keeping
youth aware of the historic
role of the Jewish people, is
vital in the spiritually de-
fensive aims of Jewry, a
program emphasized in
Bar-Ilan studies.
The role of Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity was outlined in ad-
dresses by Dr. Martin Hart
and Norman Pappas, co-
chairmen of the annual
Bar-Ilan dinner to be held
Sept. 29 at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. The function at the
Borman home was pre-
paratory to the annual
dinner, which will honor Dr.
Leon Fill for his services as
vice chairman of the Ameri-
can Committee of Bar-Ilan
University and for his spon-
sorship of numerous re-
search projects at the uni-
versity.
Phillip Stollman, global
chairman of Bar-Ban Uni-
versity's board of governors.
Joined Dr. Fill and the co-
chairmen in outlining the
Bar-Ilan progress and the
new programs currently
being introduced there.
Paul Borman, greeting
the gathered in his and his
wife Marlene's behalf,
joined in encouraging in-
creased activities on behalf
of the Israel university.
It was reported that the
losses sustained during the
Lebanese war, the army
enrollment of the over-
whelming number of Bar-
Ilan students in active serv-
ice, necessitated postpone-
ment of the reopening of the
university for the current
term to Oct. 31, a delay of
two weeks.
University students in Is-
rael were depicted as a stu-
dent body of soldiers. They
and their loved ones are
dedicated to Israel's defense
and have served with dis-
tinction in the current, Is-
rael's second longest war.
Of special interest in the
advances made at Bar-Ilan
University is the report that
the number of senior citi-
zens attending regular
classes of the various facul-
ties at Bar-Dan, in the suc-
Examinations are for-
midable even to the best
prepared, for the greatest
fool may ask even more
than the wisest man can an-
swer.
