Sol Passell, JCC Lecturer,
Noted Appraiser, Dies at 85

C.)

Solomon Meriam Passell,
a noted appraiser and a lec-
turer on world affairs, died
Aug. 30 at age 85.
Born in New York in
1897, Mr. Passell was a
1930 engineering graduate
from the MIT College of
Engineering. He gained
wide acclaim as a property
appraiser and served in that
capacity for many nation-
al ly prominent firms as well
as leading Jewish organiza-
tions, including the Jewish
Welfare Federation of De-
troit and its numerous
property holding agencies.
He took a deep interest in
the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch of the Jewish Com-
munity- Center cultural
program and for a number
of _years served as a lecturer
on Jewish subjects and
world affairs.
For the past 10 years,
Mr. Passell was actively
associated with the
Zionist Organization of
America Detroit Dis-
trict and Temple Beth El.
He was a pioneering
associate of the Detroit
affiliate of the American
Technion Society.
He leaves his wife, Zelma;
two sons, Dr. Daniel of Port-
land, Ore., and Dr. Lawr-
ence H. of Long Island,
N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs.
Agnes Waechter of Chicago,

(Ida) Grushoff; a brother,
Jerry; and two
grandchildren.
