brew Schools' program for
the hearing impaired and
deaf.
Begun in 1965 by the late
Richard Mitchell, the pro-
gram stresses the impor-
tance of a Jewish education

On the college level, hear-
ing impaired and deaf stu-
dents have participated in
Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tion activities on campuses
across the country.
To register for the hear-
ing impaired and deaf pro-
gram, call the UHS, 354-

Aliya on Rise

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Continuing the upward
trend of aliya from North
America, 173 new immig-
rants and returning Israelis
left New York for Israel last
week.
Moshe Shechter, director,
Aliya Center of North
America, said the August
total would exceed 600 olim
— the highest monthly total
in two years.

ception in 1966, students
have joined the regular
UHS curriculum, have been
integrated in regular
classrooms in junior and
senior high school grades,
have used their speech and
lipreading in regular
classes; some students have
become Bar Mitzva, con-
firmed or graduated, while
others have traveled to Is-
rael.
Many of the hearing
impaired students have
joined the National Fed-
eration of Temple Youth,
United Synagogue
Youth, National Confer-
ence of Synagogue
Youth, Bnai Brith Youth
Organization and have
been campers at Camp
Ramah.
