Vandals Hit British Town

Percy Assures Detroiter on Israel

Sen. Charles Percy (R-
M.), chairman of the Senate
Foreign Relations Commit-
tee, responded to a recent
letter from Detroiter Mrs.
Gertrude Kasle by re-
affirming his support for Is-
rael.

The Senator said that he
would rather see Israel
achieve its aims - through
diplomacy than war and
sees "a pressing need for
progress in the autonomy
talks."
Percy opened his letter by

stating:
"Since you have the
impression that I do not
support Israel, let me say
that Prime Minister
Begin and I maintain a
very cordial relationship
despite my concerns
about some of his
policies. In fact, he em-

than war. And I don't see
how Israel's long-term secu-
rity can be assured without
a political settlement in-

Palestinian problem."

LONDON—An outbreak
of anti-Semitic vandalism
has surfaced in the town of
North Manchester, the
London Jewish Chronicle
reported.
Swastikas and comments
calling for Israel's with-
drawal from Lebanon have

appeared on communal
buildings and privately
owned properties in areas
with a large Jewish popula-
tion. It is believed that the
daubings are the work of
one of the three major neo-
Nazi groups operating in
Britain.
