PLO Claim of Victory in Lebanon Conflict Is Hollow

ally obscene in the TV im-
ages of the defeated PLO
leaving Beirut with a vic-
tory parade.
They were as victorious
as the Argentinians were in
the Falkland Islands con-
flict. But the Argentinians
had the grace and decency
to acknowledge their defeat

true to their Orwellian
double-speak, will now try

Middle East. Israel's 76-day
campaign in Lebanon has
destroyed the combat poten-
tial of 20,000 PLO ter-
rorists. The entire PLO in-
frastructure — their mini-
state within Lebanon — has
been demolished. They have
been scattered over some
eight Arab countries, none
of whom came to the PLO's
aid, and none of whom can
be expected to allow the
PLO to destabilize their
governments as they did in
Lebanon.
The PLO was the cen-
ter for training the Soviet
Union's network of in-
ternational terrorism,

Mondale: No U.S. Threats to Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Former Vice President Wal-
ter Mondale told the closing
session Sunday of the North
American Leadership Con-
ference of the Israel Bond
Organization that "no
President should intimi-
date, threaten or under-
mine the security of Israel."
He added that "the pre-
sent Administration makes
a mistake not to emphasize
the Camp David agree-
ments."
Mondale also urged the
appointment of a high-level
senior official in the Reagan
Administration to continue
