Jewish Princess Handbook'
an Insult to Jewish Women

By HEIDI PRESS

Perhaps it was a slow day
at the advertising firm
where Debbie Lukatsky and
Sandy Barnett Toback are
employed, or they had noth-
ing better to do with their
time.
Perhaps they were trying
to be cute or clever.
Perhaps they had other
intentions.
Whatever the reason, at
a time when Jews need
positive public relations,
these two have created a
slap in the face for
Jewish women in their
paperbacked book, "The
Jewish American Prin-
cess Handbook."
Published by Printed
Matter Publishing Co., Inc.,
the book makes Jewish
women out to be money-
grubbing, gold-digging,
whining, spoiled, near-
brainless creatures, whose
only mission in life is
marry a doctor, lawyer, de-
ntist, accountant, etc., who
can provide them with
diamonds, fur coats, Cadil-
lacs and trips to "the is-
lands."
Wrongo, sweeties!
It is a wonder they neg-
lected the fact that there are
many Jewish women in the
business world who seek
careers and responsible
positions. Interesting too is
the elimination of the role
Jewish women play in vol-
unteering to help the needy,
aged, local, national and in-

ternational Jewish agencies
and causes.
What about the
Women's role in the per-
petuation of Jewish life
and ritual — keeping a
kosher home, lighting the
Sabbath candles, holding
posts in the synagogue?
Perhaps they were so in,
tent on perpetuating a dis-
gusting myth of the "JAP —
Jewish American Princess"
that they stupidly ignored
the good work that Jewish
women have historically
performed.
To add insult to injury,
the book is peppered with
all kinds of inanities, un-
flattering to Jewish women.
What is worse, these two
who are involved in copyw-
riting and the like for an
advertising firm, did not
have the expertise to proof-
read their copy. The typog-
raphical errors are distract-
ing, and from the view of an
insider in the publishing
field, the book is sloppily
put together.
There is nothing wrong
with constructive criticism,
from credible, respectable
sources, but the Lukatsky -
Toback book is foolishness.
Save your $4.95 for your
pushke.
To Miss Lukatsky and
Mrs. Toback, leave the slurs
to the anti-Semites.

Argentina to Buy
Israeli Planes

BUENOS AIRES (JTA)
— Argentina is negotiating
the purchase of 22 Mirage
jets from Israel in order to
rebuild its air force after los-
ing the war with Britain
over the Falkland Islands
last June, it wa.s reported by
the English-language daily,
the Buenos Aires Herald.
During the war, the air
force was the only branch of
the Argentine military that
performed effectively, al-
beit with great losses. As its
toll of lost planes mounted,
Argentina procured 10 Mir-
ages from Peru which it in-
corporated into its air offen-
sive along with the Israeli
Kfir and the French Super-
Entendard jets, outfitted
with Exocet missiles.
