Solution to Palestinian
Problem Target of Socialists

PARIS (JTA) — Socialist
International officials said
they will try to launch a dip-
lomatic initiative to find a
global solution to the Pales-
tinian problem.
This comment was made
in Lisbon after a Socialist
International delegation
led by former Portuguese
Premier Mario Suarez re-
turned from a study trip to
Beirut. The International
includes Israel's Labor
Party and Lebanon's Pro-
gressive party headed by
Druze leader Walid
Jumblatt.
Suarez, who met in Beirut
with PLO leader Yasir
Arafat, said he "did not ap-
pear a beaten man. He still

NEW YORK — A na-
tional petition drive called,
"Say No To The PLO," is
being spearheaded by the
Zionist Organization of
America to inform
President Ronald Reagan of
vast American support for
Israel's action in Lebanon
and for his rejection of the
PLO.
"The petition drive," said
Ivan J. Novick, president of
the ZOA, "supports
President Reagan's correct
and courageous call for an
end to the scourge of ter-
rorism."
"The petition is designed
to underscore the American
people's refusal to acquiesce
to negotiating with ter-
rorists whose aim —
militarily or politically — is
erase Israel off the map,"
said Novick.

Novick said that ZOA
members were contact-

How can Jews use a magnet not made of steel
Can it be possible, that this is real
Oh yes, it has drawing power and that's for sure
Regardless whether the Jew is rich or poor

I'd better come to the point, as the Jewish New Year draws
near
Let me ask you, what comes after the Jewish New Year
It is of course "Yizkor" when memorial prayers are said
From the Holy Book it is read

The magnet I am referring to, is the "appeal"
That Jews express as to how they feel
On the "Holiest Day" when they appear
Before the "Lord" and their conscience to. clear

Why has Yizkor got magnetic power on that day
When untold numbers of Jews never pray
The answer is simple, the magnetic power comes from
"above"
Every Jew begging for forgiveness from the "Lord" above

Yom Kippur day is set aside
So that no Jew can try to hide
From his obligations, to the "Lord" above
As a Jew from childhood, the "Lord" he has learned to love.

organizations, church
groups and Christian
organizations, as well as
businesses and aca-
demicians. He added that
ZOA members were also
obtaining signatures
from shoppers and going
door-to-door.
"There seems to be a pre-
vailing view," said Novick,
"that while the great major-
ity of American Jews fully
support Israeli decisions
and actions, even in the fact
of the tormented TV and
newspaper photos from
Lebanon, this support is not
being manifested into direct
action. The absence of an
outpouring of positive reac-

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Two Cohanim married to
divorcees in "private wed-
ding ceremonies" turned to
the Israeli Supreme Court
last month, alleging hostil-
ity and deliberate stalling
by the rabbinical courts
concerning declarative
judgments on their marital
status.
The high court issued an
order calling on the rabbini-
cal courts to show cause
within 30 days why they
cannot declare that the
couples are prohibited from
taking other spouses with-
out first obtaining a divorce.
In effect, this would con-
firm that the couples are
married and would ensure
that their offspring would
be legally recognized as
their legitimate children by
the state.

Have you ever heard of a Jewish religious magnet
You will probably say no, or did you forget
It is not made of steel, Power it has a great deal

seems determined to lead

Suarez, who also met in
Lebanon with most of the
country's prominent
political figures, stated
that "conditions (now)
exist for steps forward in
the search for a solution
to the Palestinian prob-
lem."
Another member of the
socialist delegation, French
party national secretary in
charge of international af-
fairs, Jacques Huntzinger,
caused a storm when he said
that the destruction of Be-
irut "is horrible, worse than
anything we imagined." He
said "the films shown on
French television were, if
anything, less than the
truth."
Huntzinger's statement
has caused a furor in Jewish
circles as he was previously
known as the head of the
party's pro-Israel wing.
After a trip to Israel last
month he distanced himself
from the French party's offi-
cial line and espoused Is-
rael's cause.
