The guest speaker will be
Gloria Goldreich, who re-
cently received the Na-
tional Jewish Book Award
for fiction for her novel
"Leah's Journey." She is a
graduate of Brandeis Uni-
versity, has served as assis-
tant to the director of
Jewish education at the na-
tional Hadassah office, and
was public relations direc-
tor of Baruch College of the
city of New York.
Her short stories, articles
and essays have appeared in
Commentary, Redbook,
McCall's, Ladies Home
Journal, the Hadassah
Magazine and many others.
Ms. Goldreich's also
the author of "Four
Days" and "This Prom-
ised Land." Cake and cof-
fee will be served. There
is a nominal charge.

A series of six diabetes
classes will be held at 7:30
p.m. Thursdays beginning
Sept. 2, in the auditorium of
the Oakland County Health
Division, 27725 Greenfield,
Southfield.
The classes are for adult
diabetics and their family
members and are taught by
a public health nurse and a
registered dietitian. Topics
covered include the nature
of the disease, dietary man-
agement, medications and
suggestions for coping with
everyday problems.
The classes are free and
pre-registration is neces-
sary.
