There are two classes, one lower elementary and the other more ad- vanced. There are no age limits. The Rishonim Program is for emotionally impaired children. Many of the ac- tivities are held jointly with the Giborim. These children also have their. own classroom. All three classrooms cover the Jewish holidays, symbols, Shabat, Bible heroes, prayer and Israel. Introductory Hebrew (pre- Bar Mitzva), crafts, Israeli music and dance and even some cooking and baking are part of this program. Private tutoring for Bar/ Bat Mitzva can be arranged. The program is held on Shabat so the children can attend services. Parents are invited to join them at serv- ices. The coordinated Chaverim program involves the participation of seventh and eighth graders, work- ing with students on a one- to-one basis. The staff of four teachers all hold degrees, three in special educa- tion and one in music therapy. The United Hebrew Schools program meets at Cong. Bnai David on Sun- day for four hours, Tuesdays and Thursdays for two hours each day. Thirteen students are in the learning disabilities class while 11 students with a variety of exceptionalities are in the second class. Three student are taught privately. The curriculum includes prayer and synagogue skills, Jewish holidays, Bi- ble, and a new Jewish val- ues unit, as well as arts and crafts and music. Four boys are being pre- pared for Bar Mitzva this year, for which they will read the Maftir with the appropriate blessings. The staff of seven is trained in special education as well as Judaica. The above programs are open to all Jewish handicapped children in the Detroit area. No transportation is pro- vided. Car pools can be arranged upon request. Jobs Program NEW YORK (JTA) — A summer jobs program for young people from poor families is again being sponsored this summer by the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty, according to Rabbi David Cohen, Coordinating Council executive director.
