to the World Jewish Con-
gress (WJC).
The WJC learned of the
charges from 'a broadcast
carried by Athens Armed
Forces Radio last week.
"The entire state and
party propaganda inachin-
ery have unleashed an open
and violent campaign of
anti-Semitism," five mem-
bers of the New Democratic
Party claimed.
A spokesman for the
Greek government denied
the charges, stating that
Greece "has always sup-
ported the position that Is-
rael should . . . live in secu-
rity" and that the Greek
government has never "ex-
pres-sed even the slightest
anti-Semitism."

Couple Honored as Founders
of Magen David Blood Unit

Mr. and Mrs. Carmi M.
(Sharron) Slomovitz, active
in numerous philanthropic
community and Israeli proj-
ects, recently became
founders-patrons of the new
Magen David Adorn Na-
tional Blood Center in Is-
rael and will receive a spe-
cial humanitarian award

for "their lasting dedicated
involvement in the well
being and in the destiny of
that nation through - —
humanitarian effort,
Magen David Adorn."
This new center, a proj-
ected $10 million complex to
be built in Kiryat Ono, will
include a fully-equipped
blood donor care center,
hematology and protein
chemistry laboratories, lec-
ture halls, research and
quality control facilities.
A computer system and
communication center will
allow MDA personnel to be
in direct contact the the
civilian and military medi-
cal authorities at all times.
The new Blood Bank
and.Fractionation Center
will enable Magen David
Adom, Israel's emer-
gency medical, blood and
ambulance service, to
modernize, upgrade and
expand its services. It has
been estimated that the
need for blood and blood
derivatives will be tripled
in the next 10 years.
Dr. John J. Mames,
chairman of Michigan
Region, American Red
Magen David for Israel, and
Dr. Morris Starkman,
chairman Medical-Dental
Council, said that the recent
Operation Peace for Galilee
vividly demonstrated the
crucial need for blood and
blood components.
The annual testimonial
dinner of the Michigan
Region, honoring Mr. and
Mrs. Allen Charlupski,
scheduled for Sept. 12 at
Adat Shalom Synagogue
also will benefit the MDA
Blood Center. Slomovitz is
the dinner co-chairman. For

Red Magen David for Israel,

Begin Assailed
for Political Use
of 'Holocaust'

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Two noted historians have
attacked Premier Menahem
Begin for what they said
was his excessive use of the
term "Holocaust" for politi-
cal purposes.
Shmuel Ettinger of the
Hebrew University
Prof. Yisrael Guttmai_ _
the Yad Vashem Institute
held a press conference
Tuesday in front of Yad
Vashem to protest Begin's
frequent use of the term.
The press conference
coincided with the end of a
one-week hunger strike by
Holocaust survivor Dr.
Shlomo Schmeltzman who
was protesting the war in
Lebanon. He conducted his
hunger strike outside the
gates of Yad Vashem.
