Despite the war in Lebanon,
immigrant figures for June
continued to surpass 1981
statistics.
A total of 5,681 immig-
rants arrived in Israel dur-
ing the first six months of
this year, the Jewish
Agency announced last
month. This compares with
5,307 who arrived during
the same period last year, a
seven percent increase.
The number of newcom-
ers during June was 982,
compared with 817 in June
1981. The largest number of
immigrants came from
Romania, Argentina and
Great Britain.

Peter Scwiefert Prize for Is-
raeli Prose and Poetry re-
cently.
