he cited new military regu-

months those serving in the
military, and 60 to 70 days
the new service require-
ment for the Reserves. "This
will seriously affect the
study program of many of
our students," he said.

NOTICE TO KOSHER CONSUMER
The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit
wishes to clarify certain laws pertaining to KOSHER MEAT
t: All meat sold in Kosher butcher shops must be under strict
rabbinical superVision to ascertain that it has been properly
slaughtered by qualified Shochtim (ritual slaughterers).
2. The meat, even though it has been properly slaughtered, must
still be rendered Kosher, by soaking and salting according
to the Jewish law. There are six butcher shops in the greater
Detroit area which are authorized under supervision of the
Council to carry out this procedure of "Kashering" meat prior
to its sale to the public. If meat is purchased from a shop that
does not provide this service, the "Kashering',' must be done
by the consumer.
3. The butcher is not permitted under any circumstances, ac-
cording to Jewish law, to grind the meat without first having
removed the blood through the above mentioned process
of soaking and salting. This process cannot be accom-
plished according to Jewish law after grinding.
4. If a butcher sells ground meat without having previously ren-
dered it Kosher by soaking and salting, he is SELLING
TREIFE MEAT and is not a Kosher butcher. It is forbidden
to buy meat from such a butcher shop.
The following is a, list of all butcher shops under the supervi-
sion of the Council. Those marked with an asterisk, sell only meat
which has already been made KOSHER before sale to con-
sumer.
