THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, July 30, 1982 23 Federation. Apartments Wing Will Have 103 Units for Elderly • ontinued from Page 1) erate means age 62 and older, will reside in units consisting of a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bath. Ten percent of the units will be designed for the handi- capped. The project will be con- structed under the U.S. De- partment of Housing and Urban Development pro- gram for elderly housing, and the mortgage includes a rental subsidy for the units. Rent for each applicant is determined by income and assets. The present -waiting list of the Jewish Federation Apartments will be used for the West Bloomfield facility, and placement will be determined according to chronological order of appli- cation. Early next year, the first 103 names on the existing list of about 1,000 applicants will be asked their preference for the Oak Park or West Bloom- field apartments. Those who select the former will remain on the waiting list until a vacancy occurs in Oak Park. Those request- ing the West Bloomfield location will be called for an interview to deter- mine eligibility. For applications, call the JFA, 967-4240. Winkelman said that fu- ture plans for the facility are for an additional 100 un- its; the structure is designed for that addition. "We are extremely pleased to be able to provide additional housing at af- fordable rents for the older members of our commu- nity," he said.
