Cable Television Package for Federations

NEW YORK (JTA) —
0 The Council of Jewish Fed-
erations has reported that
it, the United Jewish Ap-
peal and JWB are proceed-
ing with previously an-
nounced plans to offer to
federations packaged pro-
gramming for cable televi-
sion.
The CJF said 24 federa-
tions have asked for copies
pilot videotapes to pre-
ant to their boards and to
Cable TV companies. As a
result of suggestions from
various smaller federations,
the three national agencies
have agreed to offer
"shared" subscriptions

among two or three Jewish
communites which will
serve to reduce Costs sharp-

One program series,
"Vision Israel," produced by
the UJA in cooperation with
the Jewish Agency informa-
tion department, is de-
Scribed as a bi-weekly 28-
minute program showing
the human side of Israel's
people and featuring pro-
jects supported by annual
federation fund-raising
campaigns.
On a shared basis, the
series of 20 original pro-
grams can be made
available for use on cable

TV, as well as for cam-
paign and community
uses, for an annual cost of
$3,300, the CJF said.
"Jewish Focus," a weekly
two-hour package of media
materials and TV programs
developed by Jewish com-
munites and national
organizations, featuring
films by independent
filmmakers from the United
States and abroad, is being
assembled by the JWB's
Jewish Media Service. The
CJF said that, on a shared
basis, the series of 52 pro-
grams is available for use of
cable TV for an annual cost
per community of $4,000.
