Psychologist Subject of Book JERUSALEM — The writings of an early Jewish psychologist have been analyzed for the first time in a new book by Dr. Hillel Goldberg, lecturer in mod- ern Jewish ethics and intel- lectual history in the Rothberg School for Over- seas Students at the Heb- rew University of Jerusalem. "Israel Salanter: Text, Structure, Idea" will form the basis of courses in Jewish ethics in the Hebrew University's program for students from abroad. TEL AVIV (JTA) — Prime Minister Menahem Begin promised an enthusiastic audience here last weekend that he would sign a peace treaty with Lebanon by the end of this year and would thereafter propose to Jordan's King Hussein that their two countries set up a "free con- federation" between Jordan and Israel. Begin was addressing a rally, estimated by its or- ganizers to number between — 200,000 and 250,000, support of the war in Leba= non, the government and the army. Peace Now leaders pro- tested to Israel Television that it provided live cover- age for the rally after hav- ing severely restricted coverage of their anti-war meeting two weeks ago. Is- rael Broadcasting Authority spokesmen said Monday night's full cover- age was just because of the earlier criticism of re- stricted coverage. Begin also warned Iran's Ayatolla Khomeini, "that old man threatening us from the East," against try- ing to march on Jerusalem, saying his army would be met by the Israel Air Force halfway and wiped out. Shostak Scores Red Cross JERUSALEM — "We have a long account with the International Red Cross. Its attitude towards Israel and the Magen David Adorn (Red Shield of David Society) has been one of pa- tent discrimination down the years, and we shall set- tle the account in the near future" said Israel's Minis- ter of Health Eliezer Shos- tak at a recent session of the Israeli Knesset. Shostak also charged the world Red Cross body for de- liberately and knowingly disseminating highly- inflated figures of the number of Lebanese killed and wounded in "Operation Peace For Galilee." He de- manded that the Red Cross immediately acknowledge the true figures and pub- licize the tremendous pro- gram of medical and humanitarian aid that has been mounted on behalf of the civilian population of Lebanon by the government of Israel and citizen's groups. Shostak called atten- tion to the efforts of "Op- eration Recognition" in setting up a worldwide program to fight for the official acceptance of Magen David Adom as an official member of the Red Cross. He congratu- lated Rabbi Rubin R. Do- bin, international chair- man of Operation Recog- nition, and called on him to continue his work. Rabbi Dobin was in Lebanon and Israel during the recent campaigns and saw first-hand how the Magen David Adom teams brought medical and humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese civilians. The Magen David Adorn Society was the first civilian group to enter Lebanon and pro- vide assistance for- the entire civilian population. Rabbi Dobin has prepared a special publication outlin- ing the humanitarian mis- sion. For free copies, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Rabbi Rubin R.
