AIPAC Explodes Myths,
Clarifies Arab-Israel Issue

Israel, always in need of defense, her defenders constantly chal-
lenged in the serious effort to present the facts in developing crises, is
vastly dependent on AIPAC — the American Israel Public Affairs
Committee — to demolish the many libels that keep sprouting in
efforts by the enemies to destroy Israel.
The attacks on Israel have become attacks on the Jewish people,
thus becoming a new form of anti-Semitism.
Near East Report, the weekly factual bulletin of AIPAC, is a
major instrument for truth. It is the official organ of AIPAC. It has
become the means of factually defining the events in the Middle East
and serves as exposer of untruths.
A major product of the Near East Report is the collected state-
ment of facts and the replies to libels and lies, published under the
"Myths and Facts." The 1982 volume is must reading and studying for
all legislators, for all Zionists and their friends, for all historians and
all who are interested in the actual conditions affecting the Arab-
Israel conflicts.
The 1982 edition of "Myths and Facts" was edited by Leonard J.
Davis and Moshe Decter.
All the wars which arose as threats to Israel's very existence,
prior to the current anti-PLO-Syrian operation in Lebanon, are
covered in this volume. Providing timeliness in the total coverage of
the developing situations is the chapter on "Israel and Lebanon."
There is a thoroughness in coverage that invites commendation for
the splendidly-researched accomplishments registered in "Myths and
Facts 1982."
In the 15 years during which these books served as addenda to
Near East Report, members of Congress have been guided toward
proper evaluation of events.
The history of the Arab-Israel conflict is thoroughly covered and
the effects of the pressures stemming from the energy threats are
defined, including in the explanations the role played by Saudi
Arabia.
Of major importance is the emphasis given to U.S.-Israel rela-
tions. In demolishing myths, this book, like its predecesors, is in
question-answer texts. The concluding question in the U.S.-Israel
section is: "Myth: Israel is a strategic burden to the United States."
The answer outlines the facts, points out how Israel serves as an ally
of this country, as a democratic factor sustaining American interests,
how it aids the U.S. militarily. The elaborate reply emphasizes:
"The rapid growth of Soviet naval power highlights the potential
importance to the United States of Israel's naval, air and ground-
support facilities. Israel could provide the United States with a stag-
ing area, a land route for supplies, a communications center, a refuel-
ing base, and a tactical-support and maintenance facility.
"Israel stands ready to provide the United States with access
militarily secure, deep-water ports and some of the most modern air-
bases in the world. In addition, private Israeli firms already provide
maintenance and repair services for the United States.
"Since the two countries share many of the same weapons sys-
tems, Israel is capable of providing full-scale repair and overhaul
services for U.S. armed forces — on either a regular or emergency
basis."
The Israel-Lebanon chapter refutes accusations of Israeli expan-
sionist aims, indicates the friendly relationships between the two
countries, provides facts regarding a situation that is now muddied by
Israel's enemies.
"Myths and Facts 1982" is, as indicated, must reading to assure
knowledgeability on the current situation. It is a weapon for truth and
must be placed in the hands of all responsible public officials and
, spread as widely as possible to assure adherence to truth.
