Carter's Dislike for Begin

The following article, in-
dicating President Jimmy
Carter's dislike for Israel
Prime Minister Menahem
Begin, appeared in the New

"Shortly before he left of-
fice, President Carter told
reporters at a farewell din-
ner that the two burdens he
most wanted to pass on to
Ronald Reagan were Sam
Donaldson, the nettlesome
ABC White House corres-
pondent, and Menahem Be-
gin, the Prime Minister of
Israel.
"From the day Mr. Carter
sat down at his video dis-
play terminal in Plains,
Ga., to begin his memoirs,
former members of his inner
circle never doubted that
Mr. Begin was in for some
rough treatment in the
book, but they apparently
did not realize how rough.
"Mr. Carter recently
circulated a draft of his
memoirs among a few
former aides and as-
sociates, soliciting their
comments and sugges-
tions. Some of the perus-
ers were stunned by what
they considered to be the
intemperance of Mr. Car-
ter's criticism of the Is-
raeli leader.
"Finally; some of them
were able to persuade the
former President to tone
down the Begin portion of
his book, even though other
former Carter advisers felt
that the Israeli invasion of
Lebanon was bringing pub-
lic opinion into line with
Mr. Carter's personal view
of Mr. Begin."

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Political sources here said
last Thursday that Israel's
limited diplomatic relations
with India would continue
despite the ouster of the Is-
raeli Consul General in
New Delhi for "unaccepta-
ble intervention in the af-
fairs of India."
The Consul, Yossef Has-
son, was asked to leave after
an interview in which he
criticized India's negative
attitude toward Israel. The
sources here said the ouster
should not be seen in the
context of the war in Leba-
non. Israel only has a consu-
lar office in Bombay which
Hasson has headed since
1979.
