POTATO PANCAKES 99c pkg• Prof. Orlinsky's Dream Realized With New Translation of Bible PHILADELPHIA — "Wanted: A New Bible Translation for the Jewish People." The date was May 10, 1953. The speaker who chose this topic for his ad- dress to the annual meeting of the Jewish Publication Society was Prof. Harry Or- linsky of Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion, one of America's leading biblical scholars. "A new version of the Bible is needed for the Jewish community of America and English- speaking Jews everywhere," Prof. Or- linsky declared,"one that would be both literature and accurate, taking into account not only earlier translations but also the latest discoveries of ar- cheological research and bi- blical scholarship." It was a different kind of translation that Prof. Orlinsky urged. Instead of word-for-word render- ings, the translation should be modern and idiomatic, giving the true sense rather than the lit- eral meaning of the origi- nal Hebrew. And it should be not merely an- other revised version but a fresh translation of the traditional Hebrew (Masoretic) text. s lot S lock out crime ENERGY ■MMIM• COSTS • Locks Automatically • Insures Privacy • Interior Controls • Reduces Noise • Summer/Winter Comfort Control • Maintenance Free Call (313) *Qualifies For Tax Credit 478-7888 For Free Estimate Visit our Showroom at 31843 West 8 Mile Livonia, Michigan—Daily 9-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m. •Karcks-Reflexa ROLLING SHUTTER SYSTEMS David Luzzato (Shadal) and Meir Leib ben Jehiel Michael (Malbim).
