(Continued from Page 30)
GEORGE VASILIOU,
father of Alexander's owner
Pete Vasiliou, is back at the
Nine Mile and Coolidge eat-
ery in Oak Park . . . again
assuming the role of inti-
mate host that he is.
George speaks fluent
English . . . going to Greece
in 1922 from America .. .
after growing up in a Jewish
neighborhood 20 miles out-
side of Boston, Mass. . . . He
returned here and worked
with Pete ... then went
back to Greece in 1980, but
much to the liking of a lot of
happy folks, he's back for a
long time . . . George is a
good person with authority
to have in front helping
waitresses . . . and keeping
them on their toes in assist-
ing customers.
THROUGH THIS Sun-
day, Meriwether's on Tele-
grath north of 10 Mile and
Van Dyke south of 13, is
featuring a variety of fresh
summer sole dishes from
Sole Santa Barbara to
Baked Stuffed Sole . . . Also
on the menu is fresh corn on
the cob, Shrimp Mardi Gras,
a new dish (shrimp and scal-
lops baked with garlic but-
ter) and Seaside Steamers,
oodles of steamed clams.
Meriwether's "Summer
by the Sea" is an encore to
the restaurant's month-
long Fresh Asparagus and
Spring Wine Festival held
