HOLLYWOOD - "Wal-
lenberg" is the title of a mo-
tion -picture to be produced
by Trans-Cinema, with Ab-
raham Lewensteiri serving
as executive producer and
Robert Dornhelm directing.
The epic goes before the
cameras in mid-August, on
locations in Stockholm,
Vienna and Zagreb, Yugos-
lavia. The screenplay, by
two Americans, Robert Col-
lector and Joshua Samuel
Smith, is based on the fac-
tual story of Raoul Wallen-
berg.
Wallenberg, at the behest
of the U.S. government and
the World Jewish Congress
went to Budapest in 1944,
as Swedish emissary to re-
scue the remnant of Euro-
pean Jewry in Hungary, at
that time estimated to
number 225,000. They were
threatened by Adolf
Eichmann who was about to
complete the extermination
policy of the Nazi regime.
When the Russians
marched into Hungary in
1945, Wallenberg disap-
peared. The Soviets claim
that he died in the
Lubiyanka prison; but some
believe he is still alive.
Much has been written
about Wallenberg's
achievements in saving the
lives of thousands of doomed
Jews in the Hungarian cap-
ital.
According to Dornhelm,
none of the previous mate-
rial has been utilized by his
writers who did their own
research and dealt directly
with the source material

from the archives in Wash-
ington, Stockholm and
Budapest. The 35-year-old
European film director is
best known in America for
his Russian-made, prize-
winning ballet picture,
"The Children of Theatre
Street," which was narrated
by Princess Grace of
Monaco. His current re-
lease, "She Dances Alone,"
deals with the heritage of
ballet star Nijinsky.
Swedish actor Per
Mattsson will portray the
title role of Wallenberg.
Mattsson, a renowned
Swedish stage performer,
made his screen debut in a
forthcoming Ingmar
Bergman film. He has been
in Hollywood for the last
three months perfecting his
English diction.
Dornhelm, himself a
Jewish native of the Banat
in Romania, was born two
years after the end of the
war. He is the son of a couple
who survived in the remote
district near the Hungarian
border.
"Wallenberg," to him, is
an appeal to man's'human-
ity. The drama is contem-
porary to warn future gen-
erations. Wallenberg is
alive, summarizes the film
director, but only in our
memory.

"THE FINAL SOLU-
TION" is a full-length
documentary, made by
Swiss producer Arthur
Cohn, had its world pre-
miere recently at the Man-
ila International Film Fes-
tival in the Philippines.
More than 5,700 people
attended, including the
country's president, Fer-
dinand Marcos.
The Filipinos, deeply
touched by the contents of
the picture, know little
about the atrocities of the
Germans in World War II;
but they had their own ex-
perience with the Japanese
occupation army.
On May 10, the film
opened in Zurich with
Simon Wiesenthal attend-
ing. It was a charity event
for hospitals in Israel.
Cohn is a three-time
Academy Award winner; for
the documentary feature,
"The Sky Above and the
Mud Below"; "The Garden
of the Finzi Continis," (a
feature film made in Italy
and dealing with deporta-
tion of the Jews): and "Black
and White in Color" shot at
the Ivory Coast.

TEL AVIV (ZINS) - Al-
though there is universal
agreement that Israel's in-
flation rate is one of the
highest in the world, there
seems to be some question
as to just how high that rate
is.
The World Bank lists Is-
rael as having the highest
inflation rate in the world;
121 percent for 1981. The
Israeli government lists the
official 1981 inflation figure
at 101 percent.
