THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS - Friday, July 2, 1902 23 While the struggle of Israel's people for the right to live in peace goes on this is what the women, children and elderly, left behind in the Project Renewal neighborhoods and in the battered settlements and develop- ment towns of the Galilee, are doing: •Uri Bar-On, 13, goes from door to door collecting books, toys, games and art supplies to send to child- ren his age in a neighboring town still stunned by the heavy barrage of terrorist shells that precipi- tated that action in Lebanon. Their youth center— built by the Jewish Agency with funds from American Jewish community UJA campaigns— was badly damaged and most supplies and equipment destroyed. •Dvora Ranaan, 68, hands over the entire meager savings from her monthly pension checks to her local council, for repairing the rocket-torn schoolroom where her 40-year-old daughter and other housewives were learning to read and write under the Tehila program— maintained with Project Renewal funds received by the Jewish Agency from American Jewish community UJA campaigns like ours. •Sarah Wilensky, 37, organizes teams of schoolchildren and volunteers from nearby towns to help harvest and save fruit crops endangered by the mobilization of all manpower on het kibbutz — one of nearly 500 agricultural settlements established by the Jewish Agency with funds from American Jewish community appeals like Detroit's Allied Jewish Campaign. And while they respond by giving, they wait for our response. As an American immigrant on a kibbutz in the Galilee wrote to her sister in New York: "We miss you all terribly . . . and we need to hear from you." Let them hear from you. • If you have made and paid your 1982 regular Allied Jewish Campaign pledge, make a generously increased pledge — in cash. • If you have not yet paid your 1982 regular Campaign pledge, or any previous pledge — pay it now, in full. 4Do If there are any future payments due on your Project Renewal pledge, pay them now. • If you have not yet made a 1982 regular Campaign pledge, or • a pledge to Project Renewal, make them — and pay them — now.
