The new Jewish Publica- tion Society translation of the Bible is significant in four main ways, according to the scholars who partici- pated in the effort: • It is a brand-new trans- ' .ition based on the received asoretic (original He- Drew) text. Most other translations into English — including the Jewish Publi- cation Society's previous version, published in 1917 — were essentially re- visions of earlier render- ings. These included the Tyndale, Luther and King James versions, based in large part on the Vulgate of St. Jerome 15 centuries ago. • It is presented in modern literary English, retaining the imagery of the Hebrew rather than rendering it by English equivalents and approx- imations alien to the bi- blical world. • It uses the findings -of contemporary biblical scholarship, archeology and study of the languages and cultures of the ancient Near East, including the Dead Sea scrolls. • Representatives of the • • • • • • • • • • • 0, • • • • • • • • • • • • • • :EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY: . • • OUTSTANDING VAL UE 171 •.-74/17 • : • • • - CUSTONIET ' • • • • • • • • • I • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • COLOR TV : • • I • • • • • • • • • • • rff Remote Control TV • • • I • • • • • • • • • Model SY1927W Beautiful Table TV has all the great Zenith console TV features! • Computer Space Command 2400 Remote Control— with all channel scanning and direct channel access • Quartz-Controlled Electronic Tuning • 112 Channel Capability—including 42 cable channels • Chromatic One-Button Color Control • Reliable Z-1 Chassis-100% modular design • Chromasharp Picture Tube—for outstanding picture sharpness • Beautiful simulated grained American Walnut BUY NOW AND SAVE! • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Zenith Quality • Means Greater Value • The puality goes in before the name goes on' : SEIKO • • • BIG DISCOUNTS KITCHEN AID • • QUARTZ WATCHES SONY MIXERS • OFF WALKMANS • fi S ti • _July 20 40% RCA list TELEPHONE VIDEO RECORDERS • • • CROSS PENS , ANSWERING OFF MACHINES ELECTRIC • • ''' • • 40% til July 20 s list TYPEWRITERS SHAVERS • • OSCAR BRAUN'S: LINCOLN TOWERS, SUITE 111 15075 W.
