THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Abraham Dishell, 81, Leader in JNF Landsmanshaft Unit Abraham Dishell, whose role in landsmanshaften considered him an historian on their activities here dur- ing the past 40 years, died June 4 at age 81. Born in Poland, Mr. Dis- hell was a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger. He was the former business agent and current recording secretary of Pain- ters District Council 42. serving as landsman- shaften representative in the Jewish National Fund and as JNF activi- ties organizer for the landsmanshaften that credited him in the ranks of Israel's supporters. Mr. Dishell also was a board member of the JNF. On his 75th birthday, he was honored for his work done on behalf of the Red Magen David. He leaves his wife, Eve; a son, Malcolm of Miramar, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Miriam) Techner, Mrs. Arthur (Beverly) Ka- mins of East Lansing, Mrs. Lewis (Gloria) Cooke and Mrs. James (Sandra) Mayer; a brother, Robert of Miami Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Louis (Betty) Fried- man of North Miami Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. - J Sidney Fischer Sidney Fischer, retired owner of the Fischer Pro- vision Co., died June 3 at age 71. Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Fischer moved to Detroit in 1923 when his late father, Rabbi Moses Fischer, be- came the rabbi of Cong. Bnai Moshe. He retired in 1977 and gave the business over to his employees. Mr. Fischer served in the Veterinary Corps in the Army. An active supporter of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis, local Jewish communal causes and the state of Israel, Mr. Fischer was on the board of and helped to organize the Downtown Syna- gogue. He also was affil- iated with Adat Shalom, Cong. Bnai Moshe and Yeshivath Beth Yehudah. With his brothers, Mr. Fischer gave a Ner Tamid to the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem in memory of their parents. ABRAHAM DISHELL Mr. Dishell was president of the senior citizens group at the Jewish Community Center and past president of the Mezeritcher Society. It was primarily his Prof. Seeligman of Hebrew U. JERUSALEM — Isac Leo Seeligman, professor emeritus of Bible studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, died May 13 at age 75. Born in Amsterdam, he studied at the Jewish - Theological Seminary as well as at Leiden and Amsterdam Universities. During the Second World War he was interned at the Theresienstadt camp along with his family. Arriving in Israel after the establish- ment of the state, he was appointed to the Hebrew University faculty in 1950. His areas of expertise were the history of Bible re- search and the translation of the Septuagint. He was a corresponding member of the Royal Dutch Academy for Arts and Sciences. Susanne Jackson Levy, assistant professor of lan- guage arts and women's studies at Wayne State University's College of Lifelong Learning, died June 4 at age 52. A native Detroiter, Mrs. Levy received bachelor and master of arts degrees from WSU. She was graduated from the WSU Law School in 1976, and joined the WSU faculty in 1977. She was a member of Temple Beth El, the Na- tional Organization for Women, the American Association of University Professors, Project Head Start, United Foundation, Sinai Hospital Guild and National Council of Jewish Women. She also was a member of the American Association of University Professors. Mrs. Levy was a board member of WDET-FM.
