Welcome

U.S. Sen. Bob Packwood of Oregon will merit a

and many friends during his
recent illness.
welcome when he comes here June 22 for the 53rd
annual dinner of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis
(Vaad Harabonim), not only from the Orthodox com-
munity but from all in the metropolitan Detroit
Jewish ranks. He is a leader among the forces who
staunchly defend Israel. He refused to yield to Ad-
ministration pressures on the AWACS jet sales to
Saudi Arabia. He has a major role in opposing the
proposed arms sales to Jordan.
A very special thanks to Burt Levy
and to his "doctor" friends who
attended a recent film screening.
Gratefully,

Sen. Packwood is a voice for justice for Israel, and by
that token he has made the strongest and most consistent
appeals to prevent the spread of the menacing forces that
have mobilized to destroy the Jewish state.
The strength of the friendly-to-Israel factor in the U.S.
Senate is attributable to Sen. Packwood, and the Vaad
dinner will be an occasion to show appreciation for his
efforts.
It will also be occasion for gratitude to Leonard Bor-
man, who is to be the honoree of the Vaad at the June 22
dinner. He has labored to advance the Vaad's status for a
number of years and the tribute to him is well deserved.
The dinner will be the
occasion to honor
Leonard Borman "for his
philanthropic acts for
Jewish endeavors and
humanitarian deeds for
all mankind."
For reservations and in-
'formation, call the Vaad
office, 559-5005-6.
