grandfather and his father,
Arthur Robinson, a highly
respected theater owner
from the early 20s to 1969
. . . and Art's brother Char-
lie Robinson, who played
the burlesque circuit with
Scurvy, Bud Abbot and
others.
Their Knock Knocks
Comedy Club, together with
Paul Stanley, is Wednesday
through Saturday with
three to four comedy acts
per show.
It seats about 167 in an
area used during the day
as a nursery for the bowl-
ing alley . . . and in the
evening now taking on
the new face of a cocktail
comedy theater.
The snack bar at Ark
West and Knock Knocks
Comedy Club is run by
Kathy Mastan, daughter of
Ram's Horn, 12 Mile and
Northwestern partner Jack
Mastan and Tim Welsh.
Recent private press
party had Paul as emcee,
local lass Sheila Kay as
warmup for the comedians,
very clever Terry Hayes,
who proves that you don't
have to be off-color to get
laughs if you're any good
. . . Watch that name . . .
Terry is going places . . .
Amazing Jonathan was
very quick with the quips
and a magical funster . . .
Rick Overton was funny for
awhile . . . but oh how that
"awhile" dragged out as he
closed the show . . .
IT'S LIKE TIME almost
stood still . . . going to
Diamond Jim Brady's on
Seven Mile just east of
Greenfield . . . where Pat
and Matt Brady continue on
the 1890s nostalgia saloon
opened in 1954 by their dad,
Jim Brady . . . Jim keeps
watch via his picture above
the Greenfield side door
The back is Diamond
Jim Brady's entrance now
. . . with valet parking.
There's that cash register
from 1911 . . . the old wall
phone, ice cream chairs at
the long bar, New York
street signs, chandeliers,
street posts, paintings of old
cars in the six large booths
and paintings on the walls
of famous people from old
New York with descriptive
wording under each one
. . . and that famous sign of
the original Diamond Jim
Brady, "Them that has 'em
wears 'em."
- Courteous, efficient wait-
ress Susan West brought
me what Brady's has always
been noted for . . . a delici-
ous 1/2-pound hamburger
made from excellent steer
meat . . I remember when
people would stand in line
on a Saturday night hardly
able to get in for those lu-
scious salads, hamburgers,
soups and chili.
Dining is informal at
Diamond Jim Brady's on
Seven Mile east of Green-
field . . . and as before,
enjoyable moments of din-
ing relaxation.
ONE OF DETROIT'S
better lounge acts is at Fan-
ny's at Troy Hilton,
Stephenson Hwv.. through
