Youth Tennis as Symbol Israeli Achievement at Exhibitions

Tennis has emerged, after
only six years of progress, as
a major achievement in Is-
rael as a provider of recrea-
tion and in the fight on de-
linquency.
Evidence of such pro-
gress, in the enrollment of
20,000 youths, ages 6-15,
will be in exhibition here
June 7 and 8, when four top
young Israeli tennis players
come here for that purpose
with their coach.
The Israeli Tennis Cen-
ters delegation will include

Under the direction of the
Detroit co-chairmen of the
Israeli Tennis Centers,
Seymour Brode and Max
Sheldon, the young tennis
stars will provide an exhibi-
tion of their skills at 6 p.m.
June 7 at the Detroit Tennis
Club in Farmington.
On June 8, there will be
a followup exhibition at
the home of William
Davidson.
In the last few years,.
since the founding of the Is-
rael Tennis Centers, David-
son has taken -a deep inter-
est in the activities.

ers for the movement.
In the six years of ac-
tivities, the Israel Tennis
Centers have grown to
seven participating
offshoots in as many Is-
raeli cities: Kiryat
Shmona, Haifa, Ramat
Hasharon, Tel Aviv-
Jaffa, Jerusalem, Ashke-
lon and Arad.

Crimes committed by
young children, who can use
the center's eight courts
during the day, is down by
50 percent. Even the older
children and parents are

spacious premises,
where they practice

country's toughest
neighborhoods, marked an

havior used to be auto-
matically copied by disil-
lusioned kids forced to wan-
der the streets for waft of
anything -better to do. But
last July the tennis center
opened, and local habits
have shown a marked im-
provement.
