chairman of the Israel

head of the Hapoel Sports

a stir here recently by rap-
ping at the U.S. Committee
Sports for Israel because it
had decided to affiliate with
the Maccabia World Union,
primarily for participation
in the 1985 Maccabia
Games.
Ofek came out very
strongly in the local press
condemning the U.S. com-

that the move indicated

Moms and kids go for Zooroni two by two! Kids think Zooroni
looks as great as it tastes. And since Zooroni is vitamin-
enriched pasta simmered in lots of yummy tomato sauce and
tangy cheese, Moms loVe to pair up with it, too!

one sports organization in

There is a strong rivalry
between Israel's four sports
organizations — the Mac-
cabi Organization; Hapoel,
which represents Histad-
rut; Betar, which is the
sports arm of Likud; and
Elizur, the sports arm of the
Mizrachi movement — par-
ticularly so between Mac-
cabi and Hapoel.

Weizmann Chair Occupied
by Hydrological Expert
REHOVOT — One of Is-
rael's leading water ex-
perts, Prof. Emanuel Mawr,
has been named as the first
incumbent of the Frank W.
Considine Chair in Hyd-
rological Research at the
Weizmann Institute of Sci-
ence.
The chair was established
in honor of Chicago resident
Frank Considine, president
and chief executive officer of
the National Can Corpora-
tion.
Prof. Mawr is interested
in developing sophisticated
methodology for tracing
flows of groundwaters and
their seasonal changes. A
spring, for example, may
exhibit different levels of
water flow, temperature
and salinity at different
times of the year.
By regular chemical,
isotopic, and physical
measurements, Prof.
Mazor is able to deter-
mine the origins and
quantities of the various
waters contributing to a
particular subterranean
reservoir, as well as their
chemical properties.
Such studies help hyd-
rologists to decide where
best to drill for a particular
type of water, be it potable,
warm, or mineralized.

a military spokesman said.
Chief of Staff Gen. Rafael
Eitan said later that he did
not think the aerial dog-
fight would cause the situa-
tion in Lebanon to deter-
iorate. He denied reports
that the Israeli planes had
been flying over Syrian
anti-aircraft missile instal-
lations in the Bekaa Valley
of eastern Lebanon.
Eitan said the planes
were over Beirut on a
"legitimate reconnais-
sance" mission and ad-
monished the Syrians for
trying to interfere with such
"legal" flights.
He said Palestinians in
southern Lebanon often
fired at Israeli reconnais-
sance aircraft. The flights
will continue because they
are essential for intelli-
gence purposes, Eitan said.
