LISTENING
POST

BALE POST JWV Golf
Outing began in 1967 . . .
Nothing has stopped the
annual "Jewish Open" . . .
But a few years ago, a tor-
nado struck at 3 p.m. sev-
eral miles away from the
outing scene . . . and ur-
gent messages were sent to
,players on the course to get
to their businesses and
homes because of the dam-
age . . . Jerry Glassman
had to leave the greens,
where he was doing so bril-
liantly . . . to find his Old-
smobile agency and 50 cars
in disrepair.
The 26th annual "Jewish
Open" is Tuesday at Bay
Pointe . . . Call Mary
Weinstein (work, 491-0550;
home, 683-2929).
A 12-YEAR-OLD Hun-
tington Woods young gent-
leman, Sam Sky, came into
its office recently and do-
nated $130 of his Bar
Mitzva money to the Chil-
dren's Leukemia Founda-
tion . . . Executive Director
Glenn Trevisan spoke to his
mother, Ina, about it, and
she mentioned that when
3 years old, Sam was
afflicted with a blood disor-
der which doctors suspected
to be leukemia . . . Fortu-
nately, the problem was
minor . . . However, Sam
remembered and wanted to
do something to help in the
fight against the dreaded
disease.
NICE TO HAVE a per-
son like Sydney Goodman
as revenue commissioner
for the State of Michigan
. . . friend of all account-
ants and CPAs.
ERRATA . . . Name of
the one-handed enamelist is
Reva Lederman . . . Rose
Lederman is a former De-
troiter visiting here re-
cently from California.
PEOPLE "WHO HAVE
dreamed of a barber shop
staying open late so they
don't have to split the day
. . . plus being a six-day op-
eration . . . now can see
their wish come true . .
Rules and laws are different
in shopping centers . .
and so Charter House Hair
Shoppe, which moved to
Franklin Plaza, Northwest-
ern north of 12 Mile, can
have those ever-so-
convenient hours:
Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 10
p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday, 7 a.m. to 10
i.m.; Wednesday and
Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
. . . Having all the four
stylists owners not afraid to
work helps, too . . . Roy
Calley, Al Nettle, Ron Eddy
and Howard LaLone.
EVERYTHING'S THE
same . . . printing, art and
office supplies, etc. . . . but
the name is different . . .
It's now Specialty Card 'n
Gift on Coolidge in Oak
Park . . . no more name of
Specialty Printing.
BNAI BRITH is holding
its first city-wide dance in
nearly 40 years . . . Before

the war it was an annual
event . . . If successful,
hopes are to continue it as
an annual event . . . Date
is June 12, at Roma's of
Bloomfield on Telegraph
. . . with Johnny Trudell's
14-piece orchestra . . . Cost
is held down to $5 per per-
son so as many as possible
can attend . . . For more
info call Ralph Miller, 559-
3200.
TZEDAKAH CHAP-
TER of Bnai Brith Women
had undertaken a very fine
project by visiting Bedford
Villa Nursing Center on the
first Friday evening of each
month and bringing the
Sabbath spirit to the many
Jewish residents there.
The gals start off with the
blessing of the Sabbath
candles, then serve wine or
grape juice and cake . . . A
sing-along session follows
bringing foot-tapping to the
music . . . and smiles and
handshakes from most of
the shut-ins at Bedford
Villa.
Piano accompanist is
Isabelle Oliver.. . . Elaine
Beresh is president of
Tzedakah Chapter.
"THE PEOPLE IN
- 1977" is the theme for five-
year reunion of the
Southfield-Lathrup Senior
High School graduating
class of 1977 . . . at Kings-
ley Inn, July 17 . . . . For
more info, contact Barb
Scott after 6 p.m., 557-9258.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "I
would like to know what the
U.S. Post Office has against
grandparents. My
granddaughter sent us a
card from college in Lansing
and addressed it 'My lovely
grandparents' with the
right address, zip and
stamp. They returned it to
her four times and each
time she restamped it and
got it back. She finally got
in town and gave it to us in
person with all the cancella-
tions.
"Isn't it funny that we get
mail addressed to 'occupant'
but can't get a special lovely
thought from a special
grandchild without some
stupidity in our postal sys-
tem?
• Mrs. Edward Elias
QUOTES . . . "Most
people spend their lives
going to bed when they're
not sleepy and getting up
when they are" — Cindy
Adams . . . "I'm proud to be
paying taxes in the United
States. The only thing is, I
could be just as proud for
half the money" — Arthur
Godfrey.
OVERHEARD ... at an
Internal Revenue Office
. ., "You'd better start
fi guring again. This return'
you handed in blew three
tubes in the computing
machine."
GET WELL WISHES
. . . to Shirley Abrams . . .
at Providence Hospital.
