NEW YORK - Dr.
Gerhart M. Riegner, who in
the midst of World War II
first disclosed to an unbe-
lieving world the existence
of the Nazi plan for
genocide, was awarded an
honorary doctorate by the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary of America at its 88th
annual commencement on
Sunday. Dr. Riegner is cur-
rently Secretary General of
the World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Riegner, himself a
refugee from Nazi Ger-
many, was the UJC repre-
sentative in Geneva in the
early 1940s. On Aug. 1,
1942, Dr. Riegner received
information from a German
industrialist that a plan had
been adopted at Hitler's
headquarters to extermi-
nate all Jews in all coun-
tries occupied by the Nazis.
Dr. Riegner cabled this in-
formation to the U.S. State
Department and British
Foreign Office.

marks. The Hugheys are
volunteers on behalf of
Blanchard. Blanchard told
the congregation he would
continue to work on behalf
of Israel no matter what
public office he holds.
Miss Eichner's mother,
Dr. Margaret Eichner, gave
a brief address in lieu of the
sermon. She stressed the
need for adult Jewish edu-
cation and commitment to
make Jewish education
meaningful for children.
Miss Eichner's father,
Mark, has been adviser to
Bnai Moshe's Junior Con-
gregation for 20 years. He
and the Eichners' son,
Adam, read from the Torah
during the service.
