Jerome Stasson,
teacher, conductor and ad-
ministrator at Martin
Luther King High School,
was honored last week by
the Detroit City Council.
Stasson received a tes-
timonial resolution by the
council citing the accom-
plishments of his fine arts
department.
Stasson has organized
and developed many youth
orchestras in the metropoli-
tan area. These include the
Shaarey Zedek Youth Sym-
phony and the Detroit High
School Honors Symphony.
In 1981, he reactivated the
Detroit High School String
Orchestra for special per-
formances.
He has served as con-
certmaster of several or-
chestras. At present, he is
state string chairman of the
Michigan Music Teachers
Association. Stasson also is
nationally certified by the
Music Teachers National
Association as string spe-
cialist and conductor.
Read-in Winner
NEW YORK — Joseph
Landau of Silver Spring,
Md., won a $1,000 savings
bond as grand prize winner
in the "Great National
Jewish Read-in" sponsored
by the Jewish Braille Insti-
tute of America.
Some 900 studepts par-
ticipated in the contest, re-
questing pledges for each
book read during a one-
month period.
Funds were raised for the
JBI's programs and stu-
dents became more aware of
the problems of the blind.
